FAQ

Case analysis of common problems in mud materials

Q

Lead coal rock formation, Problem: easy to swell, collapse hole, large water loss. The core picture is as follows)

For the below Drilling Conditions I would suggest using the below Mud Mix to assist keeping the broken Fractured Ground together to retrieve as much Core Sample as possible.
The below Mud Mix is per 1000ltrs of Water.
½ - 1 bag of CX GEL; 0.25 – 0.5kg of CHP; 0.5-1kg of TROL

Q

Diagnosis of landslide and mountain geological hazards, Problem: Accumulation of rubble, easy to stick and bury the drill

For the ground conditions we would suggest using the below Mud Mix.
All Mud Mixes are per 1000ltrs of Water.
1-2 Bags of CX GEL; 0.25 – 0.5kg of CHP; 1-2kg of CX TROL or 1-2kg POLY XCD; 1-3 ltrs of THN

Q

Soft clay, lift the core, it is soft after pressing by finger, dry forming, the blisters disperse, problem: can not lift the core.

For the Ground Conditions in Picture 3… I would suggest using the below Mud Mix. All Mud Mixes are per 1000ltrs of Water.
1 Bag of CX GEL; 0.25 – 0.5kg of CHP; 1-2kg of CX TROL or 1-2kg POLY XCD ; 2-3lts of THN

Q

Argillaceous siltstone, Problem: High torque, bit ball. The core picture is as follows:

For these Ground Conditions I would suggest the below Mud Mix as the core sample is fairly solid. All Mud Mixes per 100ltrs
1kg of CHP; 1-2ltrs of Drill Lube; Rod Grease

Product summary and why we use it and when.

  • CX GEL – It is designed to build a wall cake / membrain around the bore hole wall to keep it open so they we can drill and recover the core.
  • CHP – It is designed to increase viscosity to clean the bit face from cuttings and clear the hole/lift the cuttings on the out side of the drill Pipe and inside of the Bore Hole to stop and differential sticking and stuck rod’s and wall wash out.
  • CX TROL – It is designed for filtrate water loss and also assist with holding the core together as it works very well with GEL and CHP.
  • THN – It is designed to reduce bit balling from the drill rod face and also break down and clays to reduce clay collaring around the drill rod’s so it help keep the bit on bottom hole for penetration.
  • POLY XCD  – It is designed to hold the core together and also help hold the hole open in very bad drilling conditions as it has very good suspension properties. When used with CX GEL and CX TROL it works at is best.
  • Rod Grease should be used at all times to give the Drill Rod’s slip / Reduce Rod Rattle and help with tough ground conditions.
  • Drill Lube – It is designed to cool the Bit and assist with penetration in hard ground and reduce torque / Rod Rattle and increase penetration rates.
